Munchausen syndrome

Patients with this mental disorder want to assume the roleof a sick person so they intentionally feign or produce symptoms and spend much of their life traveling from place to place and moving from hospital to hospital to be admitted as patients, often undergoing unneeded surgical procedures. (Named after Karl Friedrich Hieronymus, Freiherr von Münchhausen.)
